So much has happened this term in Year 5! We have been totally captured by our text ‘London Eye Mystery’. The suspense of what has happened to Salim has had us on the edge of our seats. We’ve predicted our own theories into his disappearance as well as written dialogues between Auntie Gloria and the police, using the correct punctuation and open ended questions. Year 5 became excellent news broadcasters, giving the BBC a run for their money, as they reported and recorded the news of the disappearance.
In order to get a real feel for the characters and the text, we stepped onto the ‘real’ London Eye. We had an incredible day, even if it was a little bit foggy. The two pods were full of excitement and smiley faces as we made our slow rotation to the top of the wheel. The views at the top were amazing; Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and even a glimpse of MI6!!! On our descent we tested out our photography skills as well as a ‘not very still’ mannequin challenge!
After eating our lunch quickly, we headed over to the Cambridge Theatre. Well, what can we say… Matilda was fantastic! The cast and production was outstanding. We could really compare the similarities between the film and the production and have all come back inspired by the young, determined children on the stage.
Here are few comments from the children:
“My favourite moment in Matilda was when the kids got revenge on Mrs Trunchball. They hit her with food because she was mean,” - Chardonnay W
“The best part of Matilda was the music because I loved the harmonies, melodies and rhythm,” - Jedi I.
Thank you to the parents for their contributions as this is an experience that they will never forget!
