We have had a jam packed term in Year 3. Our English lessons have all been based around Ted Hughes’ The Iron Man – which has been brought to life in our Heart Space display. Every morning we rush to check what colour his eyes are glowing today!
We have developed a range of writing techniques based around the text, mastered similes and expanded noun phrases! As well as lots of writing, we have also had the opportunity to partake in lots of drama lessons, thinking carefully as we’ve taken on the role of different characters.
In Maths, we began focusing on multiplication and division, practising our 3x, 4x and 8x tables throughout. We became experts at using arrays and the bar model to calculate and are now beginning to transfer these skills to multiply using the grid method. Our current focus in Maths is money. We have demonstrated an excellent knowledge of totalling amounts of money and put our skills into practise at The Spidepede Super Shop, checking our change and writing receipts carefully! To help launch the shop, the children made their own products and sold them to their classmates, as well as the CEO of FST, Joshua Coleman, who stopped by to purchase a newspaper!
Within our Explorers topic, we have begun to find out what life was like on Tudor expeditions – thinking about where they explored and what life was like on board a Tudor vessel. We have developed our sketching skills, drawing Tudor roses and The Mary Rose. In dance, we have taken on the role of pirates searching for treasure.
