What a busy term it has been! The children came back after Christmas and found out that we will be learning all about Africa!
During our English sessions we began looking at a new text called ‘One Day on our Blue Planet in the Savannah.’ When we first looked at text we worked as a team to brainstorm all of the facts we thought we knew about lions. As the weeks went on, we started to build on this knowledge researching lions using iPads, non-fiction texts and leaflets. We used the information learnt to create top trumps cards informing children around the school all about lions. As the term comes to an end we have started to use facts to write our own Kennings poems.
In Maths, we have been working hard to recognise fractions and find fractions of amounts and shapes. We have become experts at finding fractions of amounts and can clearly explain to others that you divide by the bottom and times by the top! Currently we have started looking at 2D and 3D shapes identifying their properties and comparing them.
In Art the children looked at a range of African artist’s work, identifying what they liked, and what they didn’t like. They then used this information to begin planning their own final African piece of art. The children have experimented with a range of media and materials to create depth and texture within their pictures! Their final pieces are well underway and we look forward to seeing and sharing their final pieces!
Thank you for all of the wonderful home learning tasks that have been sent in. It has been brilliant to share them!
