Level: A Level (2 years)
Entry Requirements: B grades in both English Literature and Language GCSEs.
A chance to study some exciting texts, linked by interesting themes such as Love and Loss, Encounters and Crossing Boundaries, and to develop your own creative writing skills.
Course Content: 3 Components
Written Examination 2½ hours– Voices in Speech and Writing 40%
This will consist of 2 tasks worth 24 and 21 marks respectively
Open book – clean copy of drama text.
(Texts to be studied; one drama text from set list and set anthology)
Written Examination 2½hours – Varieties in Language and Literature 40%
This will consist of 2 tasks worth 21 and 28 marks respectively
Open Book – clean copy of set text.
(Texts to be studied; one prose fiction and one other text linked by theme from set list)
NEA – non-exam assessment
Investigating and creating texts 20%
Two assignments worth 56 marks – 32 marks for original writing and 24 marks for the commentaries. Student choice for topic and must study two texts relating to it (one fiction, one non-fiction)
(Original writing – create own fiction and non-fiction piece)
Word Count 2500-3250 – Moderated by Edexcel
Through this course students will gain an extensive and detailed understanding of a variety of spoken and written forms of language. They will recognise how language develops and differs depending on age, gender and context. Furthermore, students will develop as creative writers as well as critical investigators and readers, with the ability to compare and analyse a range of texts.
Students have gone on to university to study English, Journalism, Teaching and many other exciting careers within the Media and Performing Arts.
