Level: BTEC National Diploma in Business – Equivalent to 2 A-Levels
Entry Requirements: A minimum of 5 GCSEs at A* - C must include a C or higher in English and Maths OR 5 GCSEs at A* - C including a Merit at Level 2 BTEC course and a C grade or higher in English and C in Maths.
This course is a 2-year programme designed to give students an overview of the Business World, looking at a variety of different industries. They will be able to look in detail at how and why businesses operate, the skills required to do so as well as customer service and marketing whilst developing their own skills and knowledge both in and out of the classroom.
There are 6 mandatory units and 2 optional units of work. Students will be required to produce a portfolio of coursework with will be externally moderated. The Units of study include:
- Unit 1: Exploring Business
- Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign
- Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance
- Unit 4: Managing an Event
- Unit 5: International Business
- Unit 6: Principles of Management
Assessment: This course is a combination of examination, externally set and assessed units and internally set and assessed units. Projects are submitted for marking on a regular basis throughout the course. Some will be assessed internally by your teachers and then moderated by the board, others will be set and assessed by the board. Internally assessed work is graded and written feedback provided enabling students to gauge how well they are doing on the course. Feedback will help you to see the strengths of your work, as well as allowing you to reflect on areas which can be developed further.
Your work will be graded pass, merit or distinction.
Students embarking on the BTEC Business qualification can consider universities across the UK as an option to continue their studies. Previous students have gone on to study Business Management, Marketing and Human Resources degrees or began careers in a wide range of roles including apprenticeships, junior management and retail roles.
