Who are we?
- Mrs J Urquhart - Head of Department
- Mrs S Mackie – Assistant Head Teacher, Teacher of Art and Design
- Mr J Padgham – Teacher of Art and Design
What we do in KS3:
A variety of projects that allow students to develop skills in:
- clay work
What we do in KS4:
GCSE Art and Design
What we do in KS5:
BTEC Level 3 Art and Design, specialising in Fine Art, Graphics, Photography or Fashion.
KS3 students receive an attainment grade and ATL grade termly. This is based on the practical work that they have completed during the project. Students work is assessed throughout the projects they complete.
KS4 and KS5 students work towards their target grade and their work is continually assessed throughout each term so that they know how they are progressing. This information is recorded on a personalised action plan.
All students receive weekly homework, for KS3 this might be a project. At KS4 and KS5 homework is vital as it forms part of students coursework.
Skills gained for the future:
As well as gaining many practical art and design skills, students that study an art-based subject also develop good communication skills and the ability to think creatively. Students are able to work independently and as part of a team in order to develop creative solutions to problems.
