Our brand new kitchen has state-of-the art equipment and our seating area welcomes students and staff in a fresh, clean and well-supervised environment. Students and staff eat lunch together and interact with one another. It is the place to eat, meet, socialise or do some work!
Our Head Chef, Martin Basden, leads the NLL catering team with the help of Second Chef, Donna Head, and the following members of staff: Mrs Nadine Fairbank; Mrs Donna Congdon; Mrs Sharon Powell and Mrs Nicola Vaughan.
The catering team is dedicated to providing the best in quality, price and nutritional value for all students and staff.
Always striving to provide healthy food, NLL Academy has for several years opted to buy free-range chickens and eggs and where possible, organic fruit and vegetables.
We are dynamic, creative and good at what we do because we care!
To encourage students to eat better we have been organising visits to our suppliers, fruit tasting sessions, healthy eating competitions (twice a year) and introduced 'Curiosity Friday', where students and staff can taste exotic food from around the world for free! Already, students and staff have had the opportunity to sample: frogs' legs, crocodile, kangaroo and even camel!
We actively encourage healthy eating and aim to provide food that is:
- Low in fat
- Low in salt
- Low in sugar
- High in fibre
- Additive free
- Preservative free
- Colorant free
- And tasty!
Our catering team compiles the menus following government guidelines, making sure they reflect the tastes of students at the Academy.
