Cornwallis Academy has been completely transformed since it opened its new building in September 2011. The new buildings introduced an innovative method of teaching, which aims to stimulate, inspire and raise the expectations of our students.
The typical classroom structure has been replaced with learning plazas, which, unlike traditional classrooms, these spaces provide learning environments for up to 120 students at a time and act as a communal space for a whole year group. The flexible plazas deliver an IT rich environment that promotes a variety of learning settings and encourages a higher degree of collaborations between teachers and students.
Each learning plaza displays the very latest advancements in technology, including a high quality projector for presenting to large groups, a nine-screen video wall and two 65” touch-screens that can be positioned anywhere in the space.
The plazas are controlled by an AMX touch screen that allows staff to easily display work and resources on the various monitors. The AMX also allows teaching staff to control the lighting, which can be varied in intensity and colour, the blinds and the volume of the four speakers, ensuring the spaces reflect the mood of the subject or topic being taught.
The aesthetic and feel of our academy does not look or feel institutional, nor like a traditional school, but instead reflects a 21st century business environment and an inspiring space for young people to learn.
